It is impossible to talk about art without mentioning Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter who was the creator of many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by nature and artifacts from her home country. She developed her artistic style, drew inspiration from her culture, and painted mostly small self-portraits that blended elements of pre-Columbian and Catholic mythology. Frida was able to arouse the interest of great Surrealist artists, and gained great prominence as her work The Frame was bought by the Louvre. Besides her great talents in art, this great woman is an icon of the feminist and LBTQ movement.
- She challenged gender stereotypes.
- She painted real women and real experiences.
- She embraced queerness.
- She was fierce and determined.
We should all learn a little from this great artist. Share!
